The Manhattan Project: Second Stage

The Manhattan Project: Second Stage

[MNI MHP102]

Expanding the popular board game The Manhattan Project with more nations, H-Bombs, Rockets, and other goodies.

A power struggle at the beginning of an atomic age. A revolutionary new technology. Who will use it to build the deadliest arsenal and become the world's dominant superpower?

The Manhattan Project is a low-luck, mostly open information efficiency game in which players compete to build and operate the most effective atomic bomb program. Players do not "nuke" each other, but conventional air strikes are allowed against facilities.

The game features worker placement with a twist; There are no rounds and no end-of-round administration. Players retrieve their workers when they choose to or are forced to (by running out).  An espionage action allows a player to activate and block an opponent's building, representing technology theft and sabotage.

The Manhattan Project is already ranked under 320 at BGG.

This kickstarter campaign is all about funding this new Mega Expansion for the base game. It will contain several mini-expansions in one box...

Components: 7 cards plus rules

Description:

Pakistan - 1 Worker
Discard one of your Bomb Designs to the bottom of the Bomb Design deck. Then collect $10 or 5 Aircraft or 6 Yellowcake from the General Supply.

Australia - 3 Workers
Collect 1 Yellowcake for each Mine, damaged or undamaged, occupied or unoccupied, owned by your opponents.

India - 2 Workers
Pay a player to use his University. You must pay $1 per worker shown in the output. Do not place workers on the University; simply collect the output as if you had. You may use an occupied University, but not a damaged one.

South Africa - 1 Engineer
Dismantle a bomb by placing a Damage Counter on it and paying its loading cost. Each dismantled bomb is worth 5 additional points. Dismantled bombs cannot be loaded or tested, and cannot be dismantled twice.

North Korea - 1 Scientist + 1 Yellowcake
After you activate this card, the other players may choose to give you $3. If they do not, you may collect 1 Uranium or 1 Plutonium.

Israel - 1 Worker
Build a bomb ignoring its Scientist requirement or its Engineer Requirement. This ability cannot be used when building an H-Bomb.

Brazil - 1 Worker
Exchange any of the following for another between your Personal Supply and the General Supply: 1 Fighter, 1 Bomber, $3, and 2 Yellowcake.

Components:

5 rocket track boards (1/player)
5 rocket counters (1/player)

Description:

When you place a Scientist and an Engineer in the Design Bomb space on the Main Board, instead of the regular Design Bomb Action you may choose to build a Rocket Factory.

Rockets have 2 uses. During an air strike, you may use a Rocket instead of a Bomber to damage an opponent's building. They work exactly the same as Bombers except they may even be used against an opponent who still has Fighters in his supply.

The other use for Rockets is for loading bombs. Here, they may also be used instead of Bombers. When loading a Bomb using a Rocket, the money portion of the cost is double the normal value shown on the bomb, but the points obtained from loading are also doubled. To show this, take 2 Loaded Bomb counters from the supply instead of 1 and place it on the same face-up Bomb card in your supply.

Components:

5 H-Bomb Cards (named by pledgers here!)
5 Lithium Deuteride Plants (cards):
25 (approx.) Lithium Deuteride Cubes

Description:

During the game, when you take a Design Bomb action, instead of choosing a regular Bomb you may instead secretly place 2 of the available bombs on the BOTTOM of the Bomb deck, and then take one of the available H-Bomb Cards. Note that since you have removed 2 cards, you will only receive the H-Bomb card and not the 2 Bomb cards that you would normally receive. Each player is allowed to take multiple H-Bomb cards through successive Design Bomb actions. When the H-Bomb cards have run out, then the alternative H-Bomb Design action will not be available.

H-Bomb cards work exactly like regular PLUTONIUM bombs. You keep them in your hand (or face down in your supply) until you are able to and wish to build them. The only differences are the additional requirement of Lithium Deuteride in addition to Plutonium AND that the high point value is actually "WIN," meaning the game is over and you have won! LD is produced by LD plants, which work exactly like Mines - except they produce LD instead of yellowcake.

The following stretch goals have been met from our Kickstarter, so we'll be including them here as well!

Player reference cards. Not to be nearly as busy as these but they are examples of what we're talking about.

.

A simple overlay board to allow you to dial up or down the amount of air strikes. One side would have only 1 worker slot, the other side would have 3. Below is an example of the area that would be covered.

General Supply Board with space for Bomb Cards, Yellowcake, and Money. There is a lot, but we hope to include stuff from the expansion as well.

(Image coming soon)

We were saving this for another expansion, but if we can kick this campaign in high gear, we'll add it to the Mega Expansion! Famous people from history come to life in the game. These are cool roles you choose each time you pull back and have persistent powers. These roles will most likely (not yet set in stone) be:

1. Leslie Groves (engineers)

2. J. Robert Oppenheimer (scientists)

3. Curtis Lemay (air strikes)

4. Klaus Fuchs (espionage)

5. Kenneth Nichols (construction)

6. Leo Szilard (reactor / enrichment plant operation)

7. Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter (counter-espionage)

Tahiti

Tahiti

[MNI TAH100]

Your small island is peaceful and prosperous – so prosperous that your tribe has grown beyond its ability to sustain you! Fortunately, being a peaceful people you have chosen not to fight over what little there is. Instead, you set out in your seagoing Wa’a (canoe) to fish and gather crops from the many nearby islands. The fertility goddess Haumea has blessed these islands, and they are rich with fruits, vegetables, and spices. It is a matter of pride to collect the finest harvest for the village. Can you win the race against time and the sea, and prove that you are the best gatherer of all?

A picture of the way the game might look like (not the final).

Tahiti is a gateway euro-style game of pickup and deliver. Easy enough to play for all ages (my 6 year old daughter and 8 year old son have no problems) and lasts about 60 minutes.

In Tahiti the goal is to collect crops (coconuts, taro, bananas, spice) and fish from the surrounding islands to score points with bonuses for making full sets and acquiring the most of their family favorites which are hidden from the other players.

The game starts off with just your home island and its immediate neighboring islands. Players build up the archipelago of fertile islands with the guidance of Haumea for the first part of the game until all islands are in play. Players seed the islands each turn giving them some control over where crops replenish. Once the archipelago is formed, the late season is triggered when crops start becoming scarce, with players occasionally stopping an island from producing altogether. Although the late season may not be as good for crops, fishing becomes easier with bonuses given to the waters around some of the islands.

Some of the 22 hex tiles to build the world dynamically each play...

During all this the players travel by Wa’a from island to island using action points to collect the crops they want or can get to before the others take them. As the Wa’a fills, it becomes slower limiting the number of actions they have. There are also treacherous reefs around the islands that require you go around them or risk losing some of the crops aboard your Wa’a. At the end of the year, the one who most efficiently gathers food for their family wins.

One of the playermats that store your goods and tell you your score.

Take a look at the GAME RULES IN PDF.

RULES FAQ:

  • What happens if I have my 4 actions, and on my last action I collect a cube and cover up a rower (leaving only 3 rowers showing, but I've taken 4 actions...)?

Nothing special happens. You end your turn happy you got away with such shenanigans.

  • When drawing cubes for crossing a reef, do you wait until the end of the turn then draw 1 cube for each reef crossed? Or do you draw right after the action that crossed the reef?

You resolve each reef immediately as you cross it.

  • When drawing for fish, did the video say I only keep 1 no matter how many Fish I draw? Is that per draw, or per turn?

That is correct and that's per action spent drawing. So if you spend 1 action to draw fish and get 2 of them, you keep just one. Even if you spend another action to continue to draw again, but draw none this time, you don't get the extra fish from the first draw, you get none for the second draw.

A unique euro style adventure game - Tom Vasel
Highly recommend it as an alternative to Talisman - Boardgames in Blighty
Venture Forth is a winner - Father Geek
A refreshing alternative - Marieke Franssen
Loved the level of interactions & decisions - Marco Arnaudo

In Venture Forth, players have a party of adventurers who each have their own personal ambition. Achieving an ambition allows the player to convert that adventurer's "will" into points and to possibly level him up. All ambitions require the player to venture forth, which means moving his party from one site to another along a path. One of the main actions in the game is playing an enemy or adventurer card to these path spaces. Once a path is completely filled in, any player can choose to venture forth down it and encounter each card one by one, recruiting adventurers, defeating enemies, and possibly gaining treasure along the way. A combination of resource management, path planning, and timing will help you along the way.

Victory Points are used to score in this game, not dice rolls or damage or even the killing of monsters. The more you trigger your adventurers life goals the more VP you get. The more "despair" you receive the hard it is to score well. ?

THE CARDS: Here is an adventurer and an enemy card example. They are played onto the board and then when you Venture Forth you encounter them. Adventurers can be hired and Enemies are slaying if you have enough power in you party or you pay thier toll to bypass them.

King Solomon presided over a golden age of peace and prosperity in ancient Israel. During this time Solomon instituted an unprecedented building program. As one of Solomon’s chief governors, you must procure materials and oversee construction of buildings and roads across the land for the glory of Solomon. You will also help to construct the Temple, one of the wonders of the ancient world.

Kingdom of Solomon is a worker-placement game with a few new twists and turns. Do you claim a resource space, an action space or throw in all your remaining pawns to grab a powerful Bonus Space? Will you spend your resources to extend Solomon's kingdom, take some points in the Market or add to the Temple? These and many other choices await you in this highly interactive game.

From the designer of the board game: Revolution!

All pre-order copies of this game will be shipped weeks before your favorite store will have them in stock, so you'll be the first one on the block to have your game!

THE PLAN:

Pre-Orders will also receive your copies at least two weeks before anyone else will be shipping or have it in store.

We hope to have this game in hand for GenCon 2011 in Indiana but for sure at Essen '11 in Germany (Oct 2011). You can pick up your copy up there and we'll even teach you how to play it.

WORDS FROM THE PUBLISHER: James Mathe

I had my eye on the game Revolution! when it was still a print and play on Board Game Geek. I was happy to hear Philip got signed for this game with another publisher - we were just a bit late. After talking to Philip more we found out he had another game he's spent even more time on that he'd consider publishing with us. Its a good solid Euro game with some twists on WP, so we decided to take a chance on it. But wood bits are expensive, and we just recently sent 4 other games to the printer. So we could use some help with cash flow on this one.

WORDS FROM THE DESIGNER: Philip duBarry

Don’t assume this is just another get-resources-and-build-stuff eurogame. Our years of development have resulted in multiple innovations tightly fused together in an easy-to-learn, challenging and fun gaming experience. Right from the start players are presented with interesting choices and a “first-to-blink” mechanism that adds real excitement to the basic worker placement. From there players may connect the individual spaces together forming vast trade districts that can be activated by only one pawn. Finally, players must decide how best to deploy their various resources. Buildings block other players from certain resources and give you extra spaces. The Market allows you to profit from any shortages or over-abundance in the game. Or you may choose to help construct the famed Temple of Solomon, which grants access to the powerful High Priest and a substantial endgame bonus.

With these elements along with many other twists and turns, Kingdom of Solomon will provide you with a concentrated and unique gaming experience. Thanks for your support. We are very excited to bring you this wonderful new game!

Main Design Elements for Kingdom of Solomon:

  • Interesting choices right from the start. This game features a tight worker-placement mechanic with a “first-to-blink” twist. Players may claim spaces with pawns or use all their remaining pawns to claim one of the three Bonus Spaces, each providing a super-sized bonus.

  • Create vast trading regions. Players may connect various spaces together with Roads and piece together a gigantic Resource Region which can be activated with only one pawn.

  • Construct various unique structures. Buildings block the other players from certain resources while giving you extra action spaces. Different buildings are available each game!

  • Fortune cards always give players a few surprises. Fortune cards may be held and played at a later time. Does your opponent have extra victory points, more resources or a special power that might complicate your plans?

  • A dynamic Market system regulates shortages and over-abundance. Skill and timing can help you earn those last few points or obtain that last hard-to-find resource.

  • Build the famed Temple of Solomon. Helping to build the Temple grants access to the powerful High Priest and a substantial endgame bonus.

  • Fantastic theme. Ricky Hunter’s amazing art transports the players back in time and makes the game come alive. Prove your loyalty to the wisest and richest monarch in history. The top-notch components will make your experience one to remember.

WORDS FROM THE ARTIST: Ricky Hunter

To start, what a wonderful team to be a part of, and what a great experience it has been for me. I have always wanted to create art for a board game, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to work on the Kingdom of Solomon. I'm hoping the art helps create a great atmosphere for everyone while playing, as great game art has always done for me. I am extremely proud of every illustration, and am thankful and grateful to each and every fan who will help get Kingdom of Solomon started.

Five Fingered Severance

[IMP MNI5FS10]

Today is your last day on the job. Corporate decided to close the store and everybody is getting the boot. You could spend the rest of the day helping those miserable, wretched wastes of human skin who come in and demand service, or you could do what you always wanted - tell them were to go and have a good time. And you know which one it's going to be...

From the instructions.

In Severance each player assumes the role of one the characters at the store. They can steal items from the store, slack off, or keep performing their work duties. Each activity has risks and rewards. The player scores points after successfully slacking off and after taking their stolen goods to their locker. When a player gets caught (by the boss) doing something wrong they gain heat. Heat also naturally rises during the game. When a player reaches 30 they are fired. The game ends when all of the players but one are fired or the event deck is exhausted.

Five Fingered Severance is a take that game. To gain points the players will have to open themselves up to the other player's attacks. I want the game to be more tactical though, so the plot cards in the deck are limited to just a few types of cards. This allows players to know about what they are getting when they take a turn to refresh their hand.

COMPONENTS:

- Rules booklet
- 117 cards
- 38 plot cards
- 6 character cards
- 13 customer markers (blue)
- 27 duty markers(green)
- 11 slack markers
- 6 final slack markers

Nitro Dice is a fast-paced card-driven racing game where pushing the limit of safety is part of the fun. In Nitro Dice players use a ten-sided-die to represent their racecar on a course made of cards.

Each racer's speed is tracked on the die itself so that every player can view the position and speed of each vehicle at a glance. Cards are used to maneuver around hazards and avoid collisions with other racers, but also to place traps of your own on the roadway

Grave Business

Grave Business

[IMP MNIGB100]

In ages long past, the Master taught you the dark secrets of undeath. You could no longer perish, and as long as you had fresh body parts available, neither could your loyal servants - who were coincidentally made somewhat more loyal by the zombification process. But now the Master has fallen! ...Again. And this time those vile heathens have taken the inconvenient extra precautions of separating and inhuming some integral pieces of his unliving remains.

In these dire times, one has to look after his own, and you're a necromancer who is more dangerous than most; you're a necromancer with a business plan. Your zombies will dig up graves and loot valuables, and while they're at it, they'll grab fresh body parts so you can make more zombies to dig up more graves. Sounds good, right? Unfortunately, it's so good that other necromancers are after the same cemeteries you are!
